Joseph – Mary’s Husband

Text:  Matthew 1:18-25

Introduction- Joseph is the husband of Mary, the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, he is not spoken much of, however he is General, he was trusted by God to be the father of our Savior.Joseph was instrumental in the ministry and the mission of Jesus Christ on earth. He possessed qualities that God saw and decided trust him with Jesus.

Life Lessons

  1. God entrusts His treasures to those who care about Him: For God to have chosen Joseph to be Jesus’ father, he must have been someone who cared about God and the things of God. Can God trust you to care for Jesus? Only those who care for the things of God can carry Jesus. Isaiah 6:8. Lk 16:10
  2. God is looking for Jesus Protectors: Herod was looking to kill Jesus; he made a decree that all male children be killed. Matt 2:13-15. We must be people who can defend Jesus, protect the image of what it means to be a Christian, we must protect Jesus by being good ambassadors, we must be ready to preach the gospel and give an answer to anyone who questions our faith. 1Peter 3:15-16.
  3. Obedience to God even when we don’t understand has great reward: Joseph trusted God and decided to follow God’s instruction without doubt or questioning. Matt 1:24

Life applications

  1. Be patient with people: when you have a misunderstanding with anyone, resolve issues with patience and love, never look to disgrace, mock or gossip about others or the issue. Joseph decided he would separate from Mary without causing a scene.
  • Joseph was a good parent: Joseph looked for Jesus for 3 days, we must be people who look for our children whether physical or spiritual. Seek for them and do not give up until we discover where they are. Luke 2:41-46.
  • We must learn to obey God promptly: when God told Joseph to return to Mary, He did instantly. Also, when he was instructed to go to Egypt with his family, he did instantly. 1 Sam 15:22

Lesson of the Day

God has great gifts but He only gives it to those who are prepared to be vessels upon honor. Joseph proved to be a good vessel, so God trusted him with Jesus, can God trust you with Jesus?
