The Leper Jesus Healed

The Leper Jesus Healed

Text: Matthew 8: 1-4

Introduction

Today we will be covering the character of the Leper that Jesus healed that is found in the chapter Matthew 8. While on the surface this story is a short and seemingly simple, when we dig deeper into the Word, we find that it reveals to us the nature of God’s plan for the salvation of humanity, all in 4 simple verses. Let’s dive in!

Life Lessons

Sin Is A Disease of Separation

  • Leprosy was a disease that separated those that had it from their entire community, due to the uncleanliness and death associated with the disease (Lev 13:3, Lev 14:46, Lev 11:44-45).
  • In a similar way, sin separates us from God and being close to him (Isa 64: 6, Isa 59:2).
  • The original sin of man caused a sort of permeant separation from God that was only temporarily remedied through different kinds of offerings (Psalm 51:5, Lev 13, Lev 2, Lev 3, Lev 4, Lev 5)

Our Salvation Lies In Our Faith In Christ

  • The leper sought help from the Lord with faith with humility (Matt 17:20-21)
  • Through touching the leper, Jesus healed the leper because of his faith.

Our Lives Are A Living Testimony

  • Jesus told the leper in verse 4 that he should go before the priest so that he could be deemed clean under the Laws of Moses (Lev 14:3-7).
  • He instructed him to go straight to the priest so that his healing could serve a testimony to “them” (Mark 1:45).

Life Applications

Get Saved!

  • Salvation truly comes to us in only one way – accepting Christ as our Lord and Savior (John 3:16, John 14:6).

Have Faith!

  • We must have faith in the Lord and the salvation that is promised to us in the Bible (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Live Righteously

  • Our salvation is paid for by Christ and instantiated by faith, but we must live our lives righteously to glorify the name of the Lord, and to bring ourselves and others closer to him (Matthew 6:33, Lev 11:44-45).

Lesson of the Day

Sin is a spiritual disease that severed our connection with the Lord. But through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, and by our faith in the salvation he granted us, we are set free from the shackles of sin!
