Memory Verse: … “Therefore, encourage and comfort one another and build up one another, just as you are doing” … 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (AMP)
Text: Hebrews 10:19-25
Spiritual Emphasis: Encourage is the most used word for encouragement in the NT. It means “to come alongside someone to urge, exhort, comfort, or help someone verbally or non-verbally. The Holy Spirit – the “Counselor,” “Helper,” or “Comforter” who resides within us should be our number one encourager, as we listen to Him and walk in-step with Him daily. Other words associated with encouragement include: ‘comfort’ – coming alongside to console; and ‘build up’ – come along one another to build each other up verbally.
How to Mutually Encourage One Another
- We must meet together: It is important for us to meet together for mutual encouragement. Mutual encouragement is most effective when we are face to face. Sometimes it’s just the presence of being together that gives us great encouragement – that is why we should look forward to being together on Sunday morning and on Wednesday evening for Bible Study. Meeting together helps to build relationship, which is needed for growth and accountability. Also, being together gives us the opportunity to be mutually encouraged by our faith. Let’s not forsake meeting together. Being together brings mutual encouragement in the family of God – 2 Corinthians 7:6-7; 13; Romans 1:10-12; Hebrews 10:25a; Psalms 122:1; Proverbs 27:17.
- Remember God’s Presence in Your Pain: When hard times hit, do not look only at the storm. Look to the Savior who walks with you through the fire. You are never alone in your dark days – Isaiah 41:10; 13-14; Psalm 23 :4.

Conclusion. Do it! – Live out the Nike slogan – “Just do it.” Let’s constantly think of ways to spur someone on, don’t just think it, do it. Remember as children of God, we are channels of blessings. Everyone needs encouragement in their life. The Scriptures contain countless examples of people who encouraged someone or were encouraged by someone – We should follow in their footsteps and be a church family that is committed to encouraging one another.
