1 John 5

Introduction: 

The book of 1 John is particularly a delightful epistle to believers. Chapter 5 is even more profound in message. Essentially, Apostle John is encouraging believers about the unique privilege we have to be born of God. There is nothing as rewarding to any human being as to be born of God. (John 1 12-13). “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” John‬ 1‬:12‬-13‬ NKJV‬‬

Life Lessons And Life Application

  1. The Privilege of. A New Nature. Evidence of being Born of God. Verses 1-3

One of the things that characterizes those who are born of God is the new and unique identity they have through a relationship God through believe in our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians17.

To be born of God is not just about a religious concept, but it is about evidence of a new nature and a new life. Ephesians. 4 20-24. 

To be truly born of God we would love God (Matthew. 22.37) love others Mathew 22.39) and obey God always (John 14.15).

  1. The Privilege of Authority of Being Born of God. Verses 4-5.

To be born of God does not guarantee a problem free life, but it guarantees a victory filled life. God has bestowed a unique authority to anyone born of God to always have victory in all endeavors in life. Through faith – trust and confidence in God- anyone born of God has the authority to have victory as it is needed. Psalm 34.19, 2 Corinthians 4 7-9, Mark 16.17.

  1. The Privilege of Assurance. 

One of the great privileges of being born of God is the assurance of a better life. This is a guarantee that God has backed up with the blood of Jesus on the cross. We are born of God so that we can partake in the nature of God in its absoluteness, through our Lord Jesus Christ. Hebrews 7.2, Colossians 2 9-10, 2 Peter 1.4.
