Grace 2

Memory Verse: …” Therefore, let us [with privilege] approach the throne of grace [that is, the throne of God’s gracious favor] with confidence and without fear, so that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find [His amazing] grace to help in time of need [an appropriate blessing, coming just at the right moment]. – Hebrews 4:16. (AMP)

Text: Titus 2: 11-14.

Spiritual Emphasis: Grace is what differentiates Christianity from all other religion in the world. Grace is the foundation of Christianity. Grace according to Merriam-Webster is “an act of kindness, courtesy, or clemency.” According to Joyce Meyer, “Grace is the power of God made available to meet all our needs.” Put simply, grace is the unmerited favor from God. Jesus is grace personified – John 1:17 (NKJV).

Ways Jesus Revealed Grace

  • By telling stories about grace: Jesus preached law to the self-righteous, but ordinary folks got stories of grace. The lost coin did nothing to be found. The lost sheep did not rescue itself. The prodigal son did not deserve to be received as a son. Without saying the word grace, Jesus left lasting impressions of unmerited favor. – Luke 15:4-24; Rom. 3:23-24.
  • By showing and preaching unconditional forgiveness: When preaching to those under the law, Jesus made forgiveness conditional. But on the street, Jesus revealed a forgiveness that is unconditional – Luke 23:34; Luke 7:39, 47; Matt. 9:2; Matt. 6:14-15; Matt. 18:21-22.

Question: Unconditional forgiveness of sin, one of the most liberating manifestations of Grace was made possible on the Cross. Why do you think some folks still find it difficult to forgive themselves and others?

Conclusion:

There may be no record of Jesus saying, “I love you” but those who met Him went away knowing they were dearly loved. Just ask the one who introduced himself as, “the disciple Jesus loves. “To know his love is to know his grace. They are inseparable. God is gracious because He is love. Why did Jesus come? He came to reveal the grace of a good God who loves us like a Father. He came to bring us good news of great joy that is for all people.

Shalom!
