The Samaritan Woman

Text:  John 4:1-42

Introduction

This woman`s intriguing story encapsulates the beauty of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the salvation it gives. She had a past, but it did not matter to him, he was not condescending or judgmental. This woman`s testimony opened a door of salvation to an entire village. 

She was honest, unpretentious and did not attempt to whitewash her life, but came to him just as she was.

Life Lessons

  1. Love can overcome any bias, boundary or limitation. 1Pet.4:8 Jesus crossed the cultural and racial barrier because of love.
  2. Jesus is the Water of life, if we thirst, hunger or are weary and seek him, he will Is. 55:1, Matt.5:6, Matt.11:28.
  3. True and acceptable worship to God is in the spirit. We cannot worship him in the flesh. Rom. 8:14, Rom 8:8
  4. A regular personal experience with the Lord is necessary in our walk of faith. Do not rely on previous anointing or manna. Phil. 3:10
  5. Evaluate yourself regularly to ensure you are doing his will. Be honest to yourself and let the light and sword of the Holy spirit reveal if you harbor sin in your heart. Ps 139:23-24, 2 Cor.13:5-7

Life applications

  1. Do not let any situation cause you to lose your testimony. Let your light shine so brightly your life will be a witness to Christ. Matt 5:16, Rev. 12:11
  2. Make the most of every opportunity. Eph 5:15-16
  3. Make sure you do not discriminate or write off anyone, after all, we are all saved by grace. Acts 10:34
  4. We must walk in the spirit, so the desires of the flesh are not gratified. Gal. 5:16
  5. Seek the Lord passionately and not passively, so he may find you. Matt. 11:12, Lk 16:16, Rev. 3:15-16

Lesson of the Day

Your past does not need to affect your future; know Jesus for yourself.
