Biblical Mandate for Family Care 1

Memory Verse: …  “ Through [skillful and godly] wisdom a house [a life, a home, a family] is built, and by understanding it is established [on a sound and good foundation], 4And by knowledge its rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. Prov. 24:3-4 (AMP).

Text: Deuteronomy 6:1-12

Spiritual Emphasis: Caring for your family is a scared responsibility and a direct reflection of Christian faith, grounded deeply in scriptural command and daily practice. Scripture places a high and serious priority on providing for and protecting one’s household. Neglecting this duty goes against the very core of Christian witness.

      Practical Steps for a Healthy Home

• Establish the Right Foundation: You cannot build a sturdy structure on shifting sand. If our homes are built purely on financial security, personal success, or even mutual hobbies, they will shake when the storms of life hit. A healthy home requires a firm, unshakeable foundation. Joshua wasn’t just talking about attending religious services. He was deciding that God would be the ultimate authority, the center, and the anchor of his home life – Psalm 11:3-7; Matthew 7:24-27; Joshua 24:15.

Questions/Activities: How do we apply this first step practically?

1. Normalize prayer…
2. Prioritize Scripture…
3. Model faith…
4. Put Christ first…
5. Nurture emotional health…
6. Lead by example…

Conclusion. God Himself is the Creator of the family. He desires that the family be strong and healthy. So, when we put God first, the creator and builder of the family, He gives us the grace to build a strong and healthy family that will serve and remain faithful to Him.  We are also in a better position to not just talk about the gospel but model it to our families and the society at large.
