Memory Verse: “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth” Colossians 3:2 –(NKJV).
Text: Romans 8:5-17.
Spiritual Emphasis: Every believer should be on the watch for tendencies to backslide and to compromise his or her faith.
- Reasons Why Christians Loose Spiritual Focus.
- Neglect and Laziness: When there is neglect for spiritual enhancement, interest in the value for sound spiritual health occurs less and less and it soon becomes non necessary. Heb.10:25, Rom.13:11-14.
- Carelessness and Carefree Attitude: A Christian will lose focus if he becomes frivolous and ultra-liberal in his attitude towards the value of his salvation. Phil.2:12, Pro.14:16.
- Avoidable Distraction: A Christian will start losing focus if he cannot prioritize what is spiritually expedient for his spiritual health and stance. Rom. 12:2, Mk. 4:18-19.
- Severe and Prolonged Affliction: Affliction tests resolves and faith. A Christian can easily lose focus by caring more about the affliction than God who can help him deal with the affliction. Isa.43:1-2, Psa.23:4.
- Ways To Stay Focused
- Literature Reading: Progressive knowledge of spiritual virtues helps keep a Christian’s focus. Regular reading of the Bible and biblical literature, as well as praying is highly recommended. 2 Tim.2:15; Jos.1:8; Eph.6:18; Psalm 101:3
- Renew Your Mind: Guard your thoughts and focus on God’s truth to overcome distractions and negative thinking. 2 Cor. 10:5
- Active Remembrance: A remembrance of where you were and where you are going helps to keep your focus steady on. When you forget, you loose focus. Jn.14:1-4.
- Rejoice Always: Nothing raises and restore spiritual strength and hope like rejoicing in the Lord. 1 Thess. 5:16-18, Phl.4:6-7.
Question(s):1. In your opinion what are the paramount things Christians always ought to remember?
2. What are the negative consequences of neglecting spiritual growth and what are the best ways to avoid total neglect?
Conclusion
The quickest way to lose out as a Christian is to be out of focus. You need to always remind yourself to remember the great work Jesus did on the cross for you and the great work He is doing preparing a place for you in heaven. Let’s stay focus because the greatest victory for the enemy is to see us derail. May the Lord keep you safe and sound in Jesus name.
