The Call of Wisdom vs. The Call of Folly

Introduction

Proverbs chapter 9 presents a contrast between two invitations: Wisdom’s call to life and Folly’s call to destruction. Both voices invite people to their table, but only one leads to understanding and life. This chapter teaches believers to discern between godly wisdom and deceptive influences that appear attractive but ultimately lead away from God.

Life Lessons

1. Wisdom prepares and invites us into a life of understanding and righteousness (vv. 1–6).
2. A wise person accepts correction, but a foolish person rejects instruction (vv. 7–9).
3. The fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom (v. 10).
4. Our choices determine whether we walk in life or fall into spiritual destruction (vv. 11–18).
5. Folly often appears appealing but leads to hidden consequences and death.
