Why we fall into Temptation

Why we fall into Temptation

Memory Verse: Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak – Matthew 26:41 (NIV)

Spiritual Emphasis: We fall into temptation because our own desires lure and entice us, leading to sin, but we can resist by saturating ourselves in Scriptures, praying for strength, relying on God’s faithfulness, resisting the devil, watching and praying, and actively choosing Christ over sinful desires, as Jesus modeled.

Text: James 1:13-18

Internal & External Factors why we fall into temptation-

  • Lust & Desire: We are tempted when lured by our own desires. These desires, when acted upon, leads to sin – James 1:14-15
  • Weakness of Flesh: The spirit’s desire to do good battles the weakness of our physical nature – Rom. 7:18-25
  • Spiritual Neglect: Not spending enough time in prayer and God’s word makes us weak and vulnerable – Matt. 26:41
  • Pride & Worldliness: Temptation often stem from pride, greed, & envy – 1 John 2:16
  • Bad Choices: Giving in isn’t just being a victim; it’s often a result of focusing away from Christ and making poor choices – Prov. 7
  • Satan’s Influence: Satan, the father of lies, uses our desires as a bait – James 1:13; John 8:44
  • Spiritual Opposition: As we grow spiritually, the opposition from Satan and the world can become more subtle and challenging – 1 Peter 5:8.

Questions:  In your own opinion, why is integrity, love, compassion, faithfulness, kindness, humility,   such a rear thing in today’s society?

Conclusion – Sometimes it is the “little foxes” that brings a man down. The seemingly little things can defile us. As Christians we must be careful, not careless so we do not lose our inheritance in the Lord. Shalom!
