An Attitude of Gratitude 2

An Attitude of Gratitude 2

Memory Verse: …  Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus – 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV).

Text: Psalms 100:1-5

Spiritual Emphasis: Gratitude refers to the ability to show thanks for the things you have and the things you’re grateful for. It helps you get closer to God by recognizing all the blessings in your life and make it easier to focus on Him. As believers, our gratitude should overflow in response to the benefits we receive as children of God. In fact, a thankful heart is a defining characteristic of a godly person since it’s an expression of His indwelling presence.

Some Examples of those who Showed Gratitude in the Bible

  • Mary Magdalene: After being healed, she became one of Jesus’s most devoted followers and was one of the first to see him after the resurrection, showing her gratitude through service – Luke 8:2; John 19:25; John 20:1-18; Luke 24:10
  • Daniel: Despite being thrown into a lion’s den for refusing to stop praying, he continued to give thanks and worship God – Daniel 6:10-23.
  • Jesus: Jesus routinely gave thanks to God before feeding the 5,000 and before raising Lazarus from the dead – John 6:11; John 11:41; Matthew 26:26-27.
