Day: 36
Text: LUKE 15: 11-32 NIV
Introduction-A Certain man had 2 sons, the younger one asked for his portion of his father’s inheritance. He took all his possessions and went far away on a long journey and squandered it all. There was a famine in that city and he had a tough time feeding. He found a job tending to swines or pigs and things got even worse.
He came to himself, and decided to return to his father and ask for forgiveness and tell him to allow him to work with his servants because he is not worthy to be called his son.
From a far distance, his father recognized him and embraced and kissed him. He apologized to his father and was ready to be disciplined for all he did, but instead his father forgave him and told his servants to bring him a robe, a ring and sandals.
He also asked for a fatted calf to be cooked in his honor to celebrate the fact that his son who was dead is now alive, who was lost is now found.
When his older son returned and saw the celebration, he was angry with his father because he was the obedient and well-behaved son, but had never been celebrated, but this prodigal brother, who deserved to be punished for his carefree and wasteful life is being celebrated.
His father explained that the joy and celebration is to welcome a lost and found son back home. This parable explains God’s unconditional love and forgiveness and for mankind.
Life Lessons-1. God has a redemption plan for all his children who repent
2. We should not remain in sin because of God’s grace
3. Heaven rejoices over one sinner who repents but is also joyful over those that
Remain in the faith
Life applications
1. The prodigal son asked for his father’s inheritance while his father was alive and had no plans or wisdom to manage it and he learnt his lessons the hard way, but he found himself on time, he recalled whose he was.
2. His father saw his filth, shame and embarrassment from afar and ran forward to show him love and forgiveness.
3. His older brother was upset at his father for celebrating his younger son when he had never been celebrated in spite of his obedient nature.
Lesson of the Day: God already paid the price for us with the blood of His son Jesus, we have to value this sacrifice. If anyone has fallen far from grace, His redemption plan is still activated to draw us back to Himself. There is enough love for the seasoned believers as well the repentant ones .He encouraged the prodigal son to stay on track. God is not partial
