Memory Verse: But without faith it is impossible to [walk with God and] please Him, for whoever comes [near] to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He rewards those who [earnestly and diligently] seek Him – Hebrews 11:6 (AMP).
Spiritual Emphasis: Faith isn’t static state, it’s a dynamic force – a powerful energy that propels us forward, allowing us to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and trust in God. In this series, we will explore the “dynamics of faith.” How it works actively within us, shaping our everyday actions and transforming our lives to the glory of God.
Text: Hebrews 11:1-40.
Faith – Introduction
- What is Faith? The Bible clearly defines faith: Hebrews 11:1. Note, the word “assurance” is from a Greek word “hupostasis”. Hupostasis was a technical, legal term for one’s property or legal documents of ownership, hence a title-deed. So, faith can be said to be a title-deed. A title-deed is proof that you own something, as we cannot see ownership with our eyes – Heb. 11:1.
- Example – How do I know I own my car? I have the title to the car to prove my ownership. Faith is the evidence of what Christ has freely given to us through His grace. Our faith is the title deed to “all that God has prepared for those who love Him” – Eph. 2:8-9; 1 Cor. 2:9; Eph. 1:3; Col. 3:1; Jer. 29:11.
Question: Do you believe everybody (believers and non-believers alike) all have a measure of faith?
Conclusion
Faith’s power does not rest in knowledge, religion, or good works. Faith is not trying harder or being nicer. Faith works when we stop playing it safe, when we throw away our little cup, and when we, with uncertain steps, take the risk and come running to Jesus with a bucket. He fills it to the top every time. But the key is to come running to Jesus all the time, and never take your eyes off Him.
Shalom!
