Discipleship 2

Discipleship 2

Memory Verse:  You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. John 15:16 (NLT).

Spiritual Emphasis: Discipleship is a journey of spiritual growth that involves believing in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, learning from Jesus, striving to live more like Jesus, sharing the Good News with non-believers, teaching, loving God and others, denying oneself, being firm in God’s word, fellowship with other believers, and imitating Christ.

Text: 2 Peter 1:5-10

Attributes of A Disciplined Disciple

  • Self-Denial: A disciplined disciple must not seek his own will, pleasure or convenience but must seek and follow the will of the Father who has chosen him – Matt. 16:24; John 5:30; Phil. 2:3; Rom. 8:18.
  • Steadfastness: Means established, firm, resolute, constant and steady. A disciplined disciple must be well established in the faith, constant and resolute in his Christian race and one good way of being steadfast is by continuing in the word – 1 Cor. 15:58; John 8:31.
  • Diligence: A disciplined disciple must be diligent in the things of God as a man is in his business – Prov. 22:29; 1 Cor. 3:69.

Question: How can a disciple maintain, sustain and grow in these attributes?

Conclusion

True disciple is committed to following Jesus to the end, and to live as if Christ died yesterday, rose today, and will return tomorrow. As a disciple of Christ, we are members of a community where we provide feedback and encouragement to one another, thereby fostering growth, unity, maturity and accountability to one another.

Shalom!
