Topic: Agent of Change: It’s all about Jesus
Memory Verse: … ““You are the light of [Christ to] the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden… Matthew 5:14 (AMP).
Text: Colossians 1: 3-14
Spiritual Emphasis: Who is a change agent? There are so many schools of thought. One of them defines a change agent as an individual or group that initiates change and manages it. Another school of thought defines it as a person that promotes change and enables it to happen. But how does God see it? God calls us to be internal and external change agents. Remember when Jesus said we are in this world, but we are not of this world? (John 17:16). Jesus also went on to say we should be witnesses unto Him to spread His gospel to the end of the earth, (Acts 1:8). Spreading the gospel is not only by preaching, but in our actions, attitude, and influence.
It’s all about Jesus
- God is at work in the world reclaiming His beloved creation: Through Christ we are called to participate in the “in-breaking” of His amazing Kingdom here and now. We must first be reconciled to God and the way we engage others must be transformed. In other words, we are to be active partners (God working with us) with God in reconciling mankind to God. Remember you are not alone. You have the Holy Spirit within you to teach, guide, remind and help us always – John 14:15-17; 26; Romans 12:1-2; Matthew 22:36-40; Matthew 25: 31-46.
Questions/Activities: How do we become a change agent? (Acts 1:8).
Conclusion
There is a great deal in life we cannot change – We cannot change our past, we cannot change the uncertainty and unfairness inherent in a fallen world, we cannot change many things that come our way. The good news is we can change our attitude about what we encounter. We can ask the Lord to lead us each day, and we can focus our minds on Him. We are created, redeemed, and called to co-labor with God in the process of transformation. We are agents of change. We are called to contribute to the process of mending earth’s brokenness, every day. This is the gospel. This is the good news that Jesus brought and is instructing us to continue to work-in-step with the Holy Spirit in the process of transforming and restoring mankind back to Him.
