Day 16
What does Jesus say about Love for God, Love for neighbor, Love for self, & Love for enemies
Text: Matthew 22:37-39; Matthew 5:44; John 13:34-35; Luke 6:35.
Introduction
Love for God Matt 22:37-39 (NKJV)
Jesus said to him, you should love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Love for Neighbor & Self Matt22:39; Jn13:34-35
After Jesus said loving the Lord our God is the first and great commandment; He now said in Verse39 the second great commandment is to love our neighbor as ourselves.
Love for Enemies Lk6:35; Matt5:44
But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful.
Matt5:44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless all those who curse you, do good to those who hate you and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.
Why do we need to love our enemies? Jesus gave us the answer in Verse 45 – that you may be sons of your Father in heaven for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and the unjust.
LIFE LESSONS
• God the Creator loves us so much we have to love Him passionately like Jesus said. The Bible says in 1Jn4:8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
• Our God is a just God He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good; and sends rain on the just and the unjust Matt5:45.
• Jesus said it will no longer be an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Love and bless your enemies Matt 5:38-43.
LIFE APPLICATIONS
• Make things of the kingdom a priority this will show our love for God. Matt6:33
• In all situations look up to Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith 1Jn3:16
• Love and make peace with all including your enemies. Heb12:14
LESSON OF THE DAY
