Walking in Light and Love

Walking in Light and Love

Day: 37

Text: 1 John 2

Introduction-

Let’s start with the following question: “If your spiritual life were a GPS track, would it show you following the footsteps of Jesus, or wandering into the ‘no-man’s-land’ of worldly desires?”

The book of 1 John 2 tells us we can’t claim to be ‘in the light’ while holding a grudge in the ‘dark.’ How do we bridge the gap between our Sunday confessions and our Monday through Saturday reactions? We will dive into this and more as we learn from today’s chapter.

Life Lessons

  1. What 1 John 2 Teaches Us About God (1John 2:1-2): God is not waiting to condemn us. His heart towards us is restoration, not rejection. He provides the Propitiation (the sacrifice) and the Advocate (the lawyer). He doesn’t just judge the sin; He paid for the pardon.
  2. What 1 John 2 Teaches About Us (1John 2:3–6): Our spiritual maturity is measured by obedience, not just emotion. To know God is to follow His ways. Our lives must reflect the faith we profess.
  3. What 1 John 2 Teaches About Daily Life (1John 2:9–11): Love is the evidence of light. We cannot walk in spiritual light while harboring bitterness or hatred.

Life Applications

  1. Activate the Advocate: Stop the “Shame Cycle.” If you have a recurring sin, stop making excuses and start making confessions. When you sin, confess quickly and receive forgiveness. Don’t dwell in guilt, dwell in grace.
  2. Align Your Life with Christ’s Example (1John 2:3–6): Before we take any decisions, ask: “Does this decision reflect Jesus?” Let obedience be your compass. Our obedience is the proof of our intimacy with God. Knowing God isn’t an emotion, it’s a commitment to His commands.
  3. Practice Love in Difficult Relationships (1John 2:9–11): Love is tested in tension. Choose to forgive, bless, and pray for those who challenge you.

Key Word of the Day: Walking in the Light isn’t about being perfect – it’s about being honest with God, obedient to His Word, and loving toward His people. #LivingWisely #1John2

Conclusion

1 John 2 reminds us that Christianity is not a philosophy – it is a walk. It is a daily decision to prefer the Father over the world and to prefer love over bitterness. Let us go forth not just as people who know about the Light, but as people who walk in it.
