Get Wisdom-8

Memory Verse: … “Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore, get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding... Proverbs 4:7 (NKJV).

Text: Proverbs 3:13-35.

Spiritual Emphasis: The subject of wisdom is a theme that is woven throughout the fabric of the Scripture. Wisdom is found from the pages of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation and everywhere in between. Wisdom is essential to God, and the Bible tells us wisdom is the principal thing, and we should get wisdom. Wisdom is not merely knowledge or intelligence, but the ability to discern God’s will and apply it to life, characterized by fear of the Lord, humility, and righteous living.

The Wisdom from above – James 3:17-18.

  • Is Impartial: Wise individuals are straightforward and consistent, avoiding favoritism and treating everyone fairly – Matt. 7:12; Lev.19:33-37; 1 Peter 2:17; Luke 6:31.
  • Then Sincere: The wisdom of God is free from pretense and have no hidden agenda, acting with genuine intentions – 1 Tim. 1:5; John 4:24; Joshua 14:7-9.
  • Then Inner Peace: This wisdom can lead to a sense of inner peace and contentment, allowing individuals to navigate life’s challenges with grace – Phil. 4:6-7; 1 Tim. 6:6; Psalms 23:1-6.
  • Then Acceptance: Wise people often demonstrate a high degree of self-acceptance and acceptance of others – Rom. 15:7-9; Gal. 3:28; Col. 3:13; Psalms 139:14; Eph. 2:8-9.
  • Is Understanding: Wise individuals possess a deep understanding of themselves and the world around them, leading to a greater capacity for compassion and empathy – Prov.2 :6; Prov. 3:5-6; Isaiah 11:2; 1 John 5:20.

Question(s): What are some of the things that distract, prevent or keep us from seeking after the “principal thing” – the wisdom from above?

Conclusion:

Wisdom is a choice, one that begins with the decision to trust Christ as Savior and increases as we follow the teachings of God’s Word. If we want to be wise, we must have a passion for the Lord’s guidance because there are many ideas, people, and situations that will tempt us to ignore scriptural principles.
