Get Wisdom-6

Memory Verse: … “Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore, get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding... Proverbs 4:7 (NKJV).

Text: Proverbs 3:13-35.

Spiritual Emphasis: The subject of wisdom is a theme that is woven throughout the fabric of the Scripture. Wisdom is found from the pages of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation and everywhere in between. Wisdom is essential to God, and the Bible tells us wisdom is the principal thing, and we should get wisdom. Wisdom is not merely knowledge or intelligence, but the ability to discern God’s will and apply it to life, characterized by fear of the Lord, humility, and righteous living. In this series, we will look at wisdom, and how to get godly wisdom.

Growing In Godly Wisdom

  • Pruning and planting (Our God is a patient God): The parables of the fig tree, mustard seed and yeast gives us wisdom on how things grow in the kingdom of God. We see when things should be nurture, when activities should be stop and projects should be started. Furthermore, we are reminded that, you may start small, but overtime, there is the vast potential for growth as we trust in God. God is patient, giving every one of us as much time as possible to repent. Jesus encourages us all to be patient with one another, whether in Church or in our secular affairs – Luke 13:6-9; Luke 13:18-21.
  • Knowing when to confront: Confrontation may be extremely difficult sometimes. Jesus had the wisdom of knowing when to confront. Jesus reminded us each time of the importance of compassion, and mercy over legalism. In knowing when to confront: we should confront evil prayerfully, confront people lovingly, and confront opposition wisely. Be careful not to jump to hasty adverse conclusion about other Christians and other Church – Luke 13:10-17; Eccl. 3:1- 8; Ps. 55:1-11; Rom. 12:21; John 3:1-21; John 21:20-24.

Question(s): In what ways can we build on the lessons of the parable of the fig tree to grow in patience just as our God is patient?

Conclusion:

Wisdom is a choice, one that begins with the decision to trust Christ as Savior and increases as we follow the teachings of God’s Word. If we want to be wise, we must have a passion for the Lord’s guidance because there are many ideas, people, and situations that will tempt us to ignore scriptural principles.

Shalom!
