Memory Verse: … “Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore, get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding... Proverbs 4:7 (NKJV).
Text: Proverbs 3:19-26.
Spiritual Emphasis: The subject of wisdom is a theme that is woven throughout the fabric of the Scripture. Wisdom is found from the pages of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation and everywhere in between. Wisdom is essential to God, and the Bible tells us wisdom is the principal thing, and we should get wisdom. Wisdom is not merely knowledge or intelligence, but the ability to discern God’s will and apply it to life, characterized by fear of the Lord, humility, and righteous living. In this series, we will look at wisdom, and how to get godly wisdom.
Introduction – Wisdom
- What is wisdom? The Bible makes a distinction between two very different kinds:
- Worldly wisdom – This is the combination of knowledge and information. It’s based on human understanding and reasoning, but it is foolishness to the Lord – 1 Cor. 3:19.
- Godly wisdom – This is the ability to see things from the Father’s viewpoint and respond according to scriptural principles. With it, a person can survive any circumstances – Numbers 14:24; Numbers 13:30.
- Other definitions of wisdom – Wisdom is … The ability to discern difference… In environments, moments and people. Wisdom is … The only weapon necessary to win any battle. Wisdom is … The Scriptural solution to a human problem. Wisdom is … Applying the Word of God accurately to a problem. Wisdom is … The ability to anticipate consequences (1,001 Wisdom Keys – Mike Murdock) – 1 Samuel 25:14-35.
Question(s): What is the difference between knowledge and wisdom?
Conclusion:
Wisdom is a choice, one that begins with the decision to trust Christ as Savior and increases as we follow the teachings of God’s Word. If we want to be wise, we must have a passion for the Lord’s guidance because there are many ideas, people, and situations that will tempt us to ignore scriptural principles.
Shalom!
