Day: 33
Introduction-
“Counting the cost” means recognizing and agreeing to some terms first.
Before beginning any significant project, you must determine if you have the necessary resources or commitment to complete or follow through with it. Whether it is a small or big project, you have to plan carefully and weigh the outcomes. In Luke 14:25-33, Jesus applies this principle to discipleship, emphasizing the importance of counting the cost before choosing to follow Him.
Jesus told two short parables to explain this:
- A man building a tower.
- A king going to war.
Jesus’ teaching serves as a reminder that discipleship is not a casual decision but a lifelong journey that demands priority over all else.
Life Lessons–
- True Discipleship Requires Full Commitment (Luke 14:26)
- Self Denial and Sacrifice (Galatians 5:24)
- Preparedness and Planning (Luke 14:28-29)
Life applications
- Evaluate Your Commitments Before Starting
- Prioritize Christ Above All Relationships (Matthew 6:33)
- Stand Firm in Your Faith in a Changing World (Romans 12:2)
Lesson of the Day
Luke 14:28-33 challenges us to count the cost before committing to follow Jesus. It’s a reminder that discipleship is not a casual decision but a serious, lifelong commitment that requires us to prioritize Jesus above everything else. Just like a builder plans carefully before starting a project or a king considers the battle ahead, we must evaluate our willingness to sacrifice and stay committed through challenges. Following Jesus isn’t about convenience; it’s about total surrender and dedication. As we reflect on these teachings, we’re called to evaluate our own hearts and ask, “Am I ready to follow Jesus, no matter the cost?” True discipleship requires a willingness to count the cost and stay faithful, trusting that Jesus is worth it all.
Following Christ is not a casual decision—it demands we count the cost and be ready to give up everything for Him.
