Memory Verse: … “Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust Him, and He will help you – Psalm 37:5 (NLT).
Text: Ephesians 5:10-20
Spiritual Emphasis: Life is about decision making and these decisions are driven by choices, motivations, needs, fear, satisfaction, desires and faith. Time is a gift from God, and none of us know how much of it we are allotted. Only God knows how much time each of us has on this earth to make decisions that will impact eternity. Use your time wisely. Depend on the Holy Spirit, our helper to always make wise decision that will always please God. In this series, we will learn some daily lessons for making wise decisions that please God.
Three Steps That Jesus Followed in Decision-Making:
- He Got Alone: Jesus no doubt had become very popular, but from time to time, He will withdraw from town to the seaside, and at other times went up to the mountain, and better still, sometimes get up very early to just go pray to His Father – Mark 3:7-19; Mark 1:35.
- He Prayed All Night: Luke adds details that Mark omitted. Jesus prayed regularly. On this occasion, He prayed all night long. Do we just pray when we need help? Prayer is an important element in decision-making. God truly wants us to pray when making decisions – Luke 6:12; Mark 1:35; Luke 18:1; 1 Thess. 5:17; Psalms 38:9; Phil. 4:6; Matt. 6:8; James 1:5.
- He Made His Decision as God wanted: Once we know God’s mind on a matter and He gives us peace, we can proceed with confidence. We must remember, God’s ways are not always logical to the human mind – Mark 3:13-19; Phil. 4:6-7; Isaiah 55:8; Acts 4:13
Questions: How is your prayer life? How can we improve our prayer life? What does prayer do for us? Don’t you feel comfortable talking to God about your decisions? Are you born-again? (Jn.1:12).
Conclusion:
We only have one life on earth. At the end can we say without any reservation, retreat or regrets, I have fulfilled my calling, the plans and dreams God has for me? (2 Tim. 4:7-8). Brethren, let us get busy for the Lord. Whatever gift or talent you have, begin to use it for the Lord. You want to live every day without reservations, without retreating from the cause, and with no regrets when you’re finished. It is in so doing, that we will all enjoy God’s blessings and favor in Jesus name Amen.
