Day: 25
Text: Luke. 12:35-40.
Introduction-
This parable talks about how God wants us to be prepared always for His return. Preparation is done when we know of the time/date of an event, for example if a wedding is tomorrow, we prepare our outfit and everything we need to get ready for the event. But when it comes to the return of Christ, no one knows the day or the time hence it is Christ admonition is that we live ready.
Life Lessons–
1. Be dressed ready for The Lord’s return
One way to show that you are ready for the coming of Jesus Christ is to be dressed. People go to war dressed in a certain outfit, when you see someone with a pair of jean and sneaker at war, then you know he is not prepared. The Bible speaks of The Whole Armor of God Ephesians 6:10-18, this is way God intends us dress ready for His return
2. No one knows the hour Jesus will return
Another reason we must be prepared is that no one knows the hour that Jesus will return Matthew 24:36-44. Because Jesus has not returned yet, some people take sabbatical from God and decide to return later, it is a huge gamble because Jesus can return in the moment of your sabbatical and you will not go will him. If someone dies in sin when they took a break from God then they are gone into condemnation.
3. Keep your lamps burning
God expects us to keep our lamp burning and ready for His return. The problem is not that most believers don’t have a lamp, the problem is that the oil in the lamp finished and no one was refilling it. To keep our lamps burning we must;
- Protect the lamp: so many lamps have gone off because of care of this world, disappointment in how others handled the gospel or their position. Be careful not to be carried away by the beauty of this world and be distracted by what others have done or are doing. Galatians 1:6-8, 2 Timothy 1:14
Life Applications
1. Set your affections on things that are above
Where a man’s treasure is his heart is- Matthew 6:21. If the kingdom of God is the most important in our lives, we ought to set our heart on it. This will help define what we can done do or not do, ‘if I respond this way will Jesus be pleased’, ‘if Jesus returns finding me doing this will I be rupturable’ Colossians 3:1-2. Setting our affection on the things above will keep us in check and give us a perspective of the return of Jesus Christ.
2. Examine yourself
It is easy as Christians to fall off not because we intend to but because we do not take stock of our lives. The Bible admonishes us to examine our lives, examine if you are still in the faith if you notice a drift get back to God. 2 Corinthians 13:5, 2 Timothy 3:1-5
3. Replenish the oil
Most believers have given their oil in service, ministry etc. but have failed to go back to replenish their oil. When we don’t replace the oil it causes burnout, the sense of spiritual accomplishment which leads to complacency. You begin to feel I don’t need more oil, someone else needs this oil. If you are a minister of any sort, please continue to kindle your lamp in the private. Demas– 2 Timothy 4:10, Revelation 2:4
Lesson of the Day
God wants us to be dressed, ready, keep our lamps burning and waiting for the return of Jesus Christ. We need to remove every distraction and be prepared for the return of our Savior.
