Barnabas

Barnabas

Text:  ACTS 4:32-37, 11: 19-26, 14: 8-14 (NIV)

Introduction-

Barnabas was an early Elder in the Christian Church after Christ rose and also supported the Apostles in Jerusalem financially. He was a Levite from the Country of Cyprus. His name was Joses but was renamed Barnabas by the Apostles which means “ Son of Encouragement” He encouraged the other Disciples to see Saul as a brother in the ministry.

Life Lessons

  1. He was generous in the ministry. He sold his land and laid the proceeds at the feet of the Apostles.
  1. He was a team player. He showed passion and zeal in ministry but also knew that he could not build alone. He went to Tarsus and found Saul and brought him to Antioch to work with him and that was where the disciples were first called Christians.
  1. He was humble. While Barnabas and Paul were in Lystra, Paul healed a crippled man and people wanted to worship them, calling Barnabas, Zeus and Paul, Hermes. They both tore their clothes and cried out saying, we are mere men just like you.

In spite of the great impact his work in the ministry was making, and praises from men, he remained humble and gave God all the glory.

Lesson of the Day:

Let us remain useful in God’s ministry of reconciling men to Himself and we will never lack any good thing. When we remain vessels in God’s vineyard, we end up motivating and impacting, others to also stay focused on their Heavenly race. May the grace that was granted to Barnabas, to serve God zealously, also be ours in Jesus Name, Amen 🙏!
