Topic: Christmas Story – Review
Memory Verse: … ” For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. – John 3:16 (NKJV).
Text: Isaiah 9:6-7
Spiritual Emphasis: True followers of Jesus are givers – not just at Christmastime, but throughout the entire year. Generosity is part of our identity in Christ and should be our natural response to God’s blessings and provisions. Christmas story is all about love, forgiveness, mercy, God’s wisdom, peace, and God’s plan for redemption. To appreciate God’s unfathomable ways, we need look no further than the events of Christmas story when Jesus, His Son came to earth.
- Jesus’ Birth, Characterized by Giving: Mary gave her body and reputation – Luke 1:26-28; Matt. 1:18-23. The innkeeper gave a stable or manger – Luke 2:4-7. The angel of the Lord gave an announcement – Luke 2:13-16. The shepherds gave a testimony – Luke 2:17-20. The wise men gave gifts and worship – Matt. 2:1-2; 9-12. God gave His only Son – John 3:16.
- Jesus’ Arrival Changes Everything: The place of Jesus’ birth – John 6:35; Micah 5:2; Luke 2:1-7. The incarnation – Luke 1:26-35. The Name – Matt. 1:20-21; Phil. 2:9-11; Acts 4:8-12. God’s purpose – John 3:16-17; Matt. 20:28; John 1:29.
Questions/Activities: What have we learned from the Christmas story?
Are we willing to follow God, even when it doesn’t make sense to you?
What can we do better individually and collectively to give someone everyday the Gospel message of Christmas – The Good News about Jesus?
Conclusion. Knowing that God is guiding our lives and choosing what’s best for us is a great source of comfort and peace. He will always bring about the best outcome – at the right time and in the appropriate way – to achieve His purposes in our lives. Finally, of all the gifts we have ever received, the gift of eternal life is by far the most valuable. That’s why we must double our effort to spread the good news about Jesus as we enter the new year. He is our only Hope. We’ll never know how our words will influence someone else unless we speak up.
