Day 38
Topic: What does Jesus say about Commitment
Text: Hebrews 10:23-25
INTRODUCTION
The day you gave your life to Christ, is the day your commitment begins
The Bible teaches us about Christian commitment in various aspects of life – to God and our Church family, our personal lives, families and love ones, neighbors, employers, and in almost everything we do. The Bible also teaches that the utmost commitment of our lives is to God Himself. Example is the death of our Lord Jesus Christ Himself on the Cross.
In Matthew 22:37-38 Jesus said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment” – this is the utmost commitment anyone would ever make. Our Lord Jesus demonstrated to us what it takes to be committed to God; that’s through his Loyalty (Obligation), Engagement, and Dedication.
LIFE LESSONS
1.Engagement – Be connected and relentless in your effort (uninterrupted effort – continuous) to achieve a result – Keeping your appointment).
- Commitment is keeping your appointment and staying focus on the task. Heb 12:2
- Engagement is giving one’s life sacrificially to a course as Jesus did. John 3:16-17
2. Dedication – Be dedicated to a course (The course of serving and pleasing God)
- Committing our ways into God’s hands Psalm 37:5-6
- Be dedicated to all that you do for God and in any place you find yourself, and expect a reward. Colossians 3:23-24 23
3. Loyalty or Obligation: Being bound or tied to a course (The course of serving a master, accepting a job offer, fulfilling a dream or just achieving a personal goal).
Commitment is loyalty to God, and or anything that we placed as highest priority in our lives – Is the things of God the highest priority your life, or something else? May God help us to put Him at the helm of our affairs – Amen!
- Commitment is making a choice and more importantly the right choice (Moses called the people of Israel to make a commitment (a choice). Joseph also had to make a personal choice to show where his loyalty belong) Joshua 24:15-16
LIFE APPLICATIONS
1.Engagement
Fellowship – It helps promote, keep, and grow commitment:
(To be committed, we must connect, or in otherwise be continuously engaged in the service of God and in every good works).
Why we need to connect continuously to be committed:
- Successful athletes don’t train or compete in isolation – Hebrews 10:25
- Fellowship strengthens commitment – Proverbs 27:17
2. Dedication
- Commit your ways (your course) into God’s hands – Psalm 37:5-6
- Be ready to take the punch – Be sold out to the course as Apostle Paul; He was sold out to the course of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus – Philippians 1:21
- Focus on the ultimate price; Our Lord Jesus focused on the ultimate price (our salvation) and did not give in. – Luke 22:42
3.Loyalty or Obligation
- Taking ownership of God’s work especially in our local Churches, families, places of employment, communities, and in every position we find ourselves.
- Be indebted the course – Be duty-bound; Seeking or settling for nothing less than the best result in all you do. We owe it to God because of the work done on the Cross – Jesus’s commitment produced our Salvation and our commitment will produce eternity with Him – Revelation 21:6-7
