Text: John 14:15; Matthew 21:28-31.
Introduction
Jesus teaching His disciple the importance of obedience, the choice you make when you are given instruction. What are the factors that influence your decision in obedience to His word as demonstrated by Jesus. How far are you willing to pattern your lifestyle to influence the people around you, knowing that faithful is God who have promised to fulfil when you totally submit and obey His teaching.
3 Life Lesson on what Jesus says about Obedience.
- Jesus is teaching the disciple obedience- knowing the commands and obeying the commands puts you in better standing with the commander. God is giving instruction and wants it to be followed. Lk 6:46, James 1: 22
- Submission to the will of the Father is total obedience not wavering nor human reasoning of how convenient the instruction is. With a sincere heart yielding to please God and not man. Phil 2:8, Col 3:22
- Jesus’s teaching on the choice you make in obeying the commands as seen in the example in our text Matt 21:29, decision is taken based on your understanding of the commands to obey or to refuse which comes with benefits and consequences.
3 Life Applications of Jesus teaching on Obedience
- Do you have a relationship with the instructor? When God gives a command, he expects us to obey and not question him. Deut. 28:1 if you faithfully obey, Jn 14:23 says if you love Him to obey his command God will make a home with you that is how powerful obedience can fetch us when we have a personal relationship with God.
- In submission- you are willing with a sincere heart to follow your commander. You are ready to give up yourself to obey the totality of the command Isa 1:19-20. God’s command is to make us better and grow when we adhere and acknowledge our weakness.
- God gives us choice to His commandment which comes with benefit and consequence. Let your decisions be pleasing unto the Lord to receive His promises for obeying than getting damned for disobedience. Your lifestyle will reflect if you follow the commands of God.
Lesson of the Day
Do you love God enough to obey the totality of the commands?
